Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has inaugurated Market Complexes, Roads and the First Local Government-owned radio station in Nigeria (Ishokan 106.7 FM), operated by Mushin Local Government.
Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Deputy Gov., Obafemi Hamzat, made this known on Thursday at the commissioning of the Legacy Projects executed by the Chairman, Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, at Oliyide Street, Mushin, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the governor said that the legacy projects were laudable and worthy of emulation by other Local Government Areas in Nigeria.
Sanwo-Olu said: "We are here in the Mushin Local Government to inaugurate Sen. Ganiu Olanrewaju Solomon Ultra-Modern Office Complex in Oliyide.
"The First Radio Station in Mushin Local Government, the first of its kind in Nigeria, newly constructed and rehabilitated 90 Roads, across the 10 wards in Mushin LGA and the Mushin Main Market.
"Renovated Public School Buildings that provide our children with a safe, clean and inspiring learning environment, among others."
The governor emphasised the importance of information dissemination to the people with the Isokan Radio Station by the council.
He said: “It is always good to communicate with our people. So, we must appreciate the chairman of the local government for building these notable projects.
"First, getting all the federal agencies in one place, so if you need anything, you are not running from one place to another.
"Secondly, establishing this radio station, and many other projects, which include, a lot of roads, markets now, and so on, is a real achievement,” he said.
Sanwo-Olu said residents of the area should be excited about having such a political party and chairmen who are commissioning infrastructures that some states cannot do.
The governor commended the councils in the state for being progressing under the All Progressive Congress (APC) administration.
He added that Roads, Primary Healthcare, Schools, Administrative blocks and so many more were being inaugurated by the local government councils in the state.
According to him, it implies that the party is a progressive one, urging the people to unite and be able to stand on the President’s mandate.
In his goodwill address, the State Chairman, the All Progressive Congress, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, disclosed that the voters’ registration would start next month, reiterating that Mushin Local Government had the largest number of polling units in the state, with a total number of 547 polling units.
Ojelabi added that the party is expecting much from the Mushin Local Government in the 2027 election, reiterating that “We have a projection of about 500 voters per polling unit, and we are expecting from Mushin a minimum of 250 each from the projected 500. If you multiply 250 by 547, you’ll be looking at about 136,000 votes.”
Earlier in his speech, the outgoing Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Hon. Emmanuel Bamigboye, urged the residents of Mushin and all beneficiaries of the facilities to utilize them to their maximum.
The outgoing chairman said these projects belong to them added that Public infrastructure thrives when people see themselves as custodians.
He assured them that this newly elected Administration would continue the great works and remain fully committed to delivering more projects that would touch lives and transform our communities.
He said: "Together, we will build a Mushin that sets the pace for progress, inclusion, and sustainable growth.”
In his welcome address, the Vice Chairman and the Chairman-Elect, Mushin Local Government, Hon. Tunbosun Aruwe, acknowledged the responsibility that comes with the construction or rehabilitation of infrastructure.
Aruwe therefore charged the residents to be committed and ensure that the facilities should be maintained and utilised to their full potential.
